Former Springfield School Board member and retired educator Melinda LaBarre will start her new job as a member of the Illinois State Board of Education next year in the thick of it, including voting on a difficult new state education budget in January.

The Stafford County school system is accepting applications from teachers and others for its first “Green Education Award.” Winners will be selected at the elementary, middle and high school levels. The award recognizes teachers, paraprofessionals or staff members who promote environmental education, according to the division’s Web site….
