NORTH ARLINGTON — The school board is challenging voters’ narrow defeat of a spending plan that would use $21.4 million in tax dollars to fund public education in the borough, district Superintendent Oliver Stringham said Tuesday.

He was a Caddo Parish educator for 34 years, and now Curtis Hooks is taking steps to get back in action. This time as a Caddo Parish School Board member. Hooks announced his intent to run for the District 5 seat Saturday morning. He said the education system is broken and he wants to jump-start the repairs.

The Bibb County school board voted last week to adopt a resolution to use general reserve funds to make a 2005 Capital Improvement program bond repayment that needs to be paid next month because they don’t have funds available in the education local option sales tax account to cover it.
